Concrete Bond

Concrete is a mixture of water, sand, cement and gravel. Though concrete is hard and durable, cracks and damage are bound to occur with time. Cracks can be repaired by applying new material to the old one. However, for the repairs to be long lasting, there has to be a strong concrete bond between the new and the old material. Many people fail because they only apply cement paste on the old concrete to cover the damage. That will work for the short term but after a while the cracks or damage will reappear.

The main trick in repairing your pavements is to glue the new patching compound to the old concrete forming a concrete bond. You can accomplish this in two ways:

1. Use of boding agents

There are acrylic bonding agents available in the market that you can use to form a concrete bind. Bonding agents are chemicals that resemble the resins in paints.

There are two types of bonding agents. The first type is those that are added to the patching compound. The second type is the agents that are painted to the old concrete. Once you paint, you have to allow them to cure before adding the patching compound. You can use one or both depending on the results that you want to achieve.

2. Cement paint

The second method you can use to achieve a concrete bond is by using cement paint. You simply mix cement with water to get a certain consistency and then apply it before patching.
