Wood Studs
Drywall/gypsum boards are not hung directly on the wall – you need studs to anchor them. Wood has been used for studs for many years now. Although there is an increased update of metal studs, wood studs are still the preferred studs for residential use, mostly because of their cheaper cost.
Wood studs are basically boards that work as framing elements to support the wall. They are spaced either 16” or 24” on-center along the wall and from the floor to the ceiling.
Studs are important because, without them, you would not be able to use hangers and fasteners used to hang such heavy objects as mirrors, large pictures, TV mounting systems, and shelves without the wall crumbling. The best place to have your fastener is the center of a stud.
At Bernardi Building Supply, we are proud to distribute wood studs from top North American manufacturers. Our wood studs are in 2 basic dimensions – 2″×4″ or 2″×6″. Note that although these traditional dimensions have reduced, these are the dimensions still being used to describe wood studs.
