T Bar Ceiling Systems

DRYWALL AND ACOUSTICAL

T Bar Ceiling Systems

At Bernardi Building Supply, we are proud to be an Authorized Distributor of T Bar Ceiling Systems from USG Boral. USG Boral is a leading building solutions provider with many years of experience in the industry.

T Bar Ceiling Systems are low-cost, easy to install, and easy to modify ceiling tile systems. We stock these systems in different patterns and styles to match every need.

The systems allow for the attachment of the different components without the need for screwing or knotting in. The system works with the minor grid system simply attaching to the main grid and then the gypsum board attaching to the T-bar. Another benefit of suspended drop t-bar ceilings in Toronto is that you can easily replace individual parts without causing damage.

Concealed Ceiling Systems do not have a visible grid system, which gives them a more modern appearance; but if your T Bar Ceiling Systems are professionally installed, you will not notice much of a difference.

How T-bar Ceiling Tiles are Installed

People use different names to refer to a suspended ceiling. The different terminologies might be perceived as different items, but they all mean the same thing. Suppliers, traders, architects, property managers, and clients use different names for suspended ceilings. Here’s a brief explanation.

Suspended ceilings — these are common in both commercial and residential structures. They feature a secondary ceiling fitted beneath the roof ceiling or the structural joist.

Dropped-down ceiling — these ceilings have a drop in height to accommodate any infrastructure. Infrastructure may include gas lines, HVAC ducts, piping, electrical wiring or other features that might appear messy and need to be dropped down or concealed. The dropped-down ceiling is common in both office and residential settings.

T-bar ceiling installation — these are common in commercial drop ceilings installation. They feature a grid whereby the members look like T’s.

Acoustic ceiling tiles — in the past, ceiling tiles were either acoustic or non-acoustic. The term acoustic is common among architects; it has persisted despite the current evolvement of ceiling tiles.

A dropped ceiling not only makes a ceiling look attractive, but it’s also quite functional. It makes it easy to update a space in terms of colour and texture, cancels noise in commercial settings, and enhances fire ratings and thermal value.

Benefits

In addition to enhancing the curb appeal, there are other benefits of a dropped ceiling:

Numerous Designs

The modern dropped ceilings provide home and business owners with a wide range of appearances to choose from. You can choose from metal, fibre, plastic, wood, and other materials. The ceilings are available in different colours; they blend in with any décor. Even if the tiles are mainly available in 2×2 feet or 2×4 feet, you can order them in custom sizes.

Energy-efficient

Dropped ceilings provide unmatched energy efficiency. Especially in business and industrial locations, lowering the ceiling height means that less energy is spent on heating or cooling the space. The ceiling tiles come in different thicknesses, providing an enhanced R-value. The suspended ceilings make it easy to install lighting and reduce the overall amount of lighting required.

Environmental Friendly

Drop ceiling tiles made from recycled by-products make it easy to reduce the carbon footprint. Other materials like stone and rock wool contain less harmful products and are eco-friendly.

Moisture Resistance

Dropped ceilings are durable, even in moist environments. They can be installed with moisture-resistant tiles, unlike plaster and sheetrock ceilings. The ceilings are resistant to adverse effects of moisture like mould, bacteria, mildew, and sagging. You can go for tiles that are designed for high moisture environments. However, if you have a major leak, no tiles will withstand it. However, the good news with a drop ceiling grid is that you can always replace soaked tiles with new ones.

Soundproofing

Drop ceilings tiles are ideal for offices and commercial settings due to their noise-cancelling properties. Tiles have an NRC (Noise Reduction Coefficient) rating, depending on the level of noise they allow to pass through. The lowest rating is 0.50, and the highest is 0.99, with the average NRC rating at 0.65. Popular ceiling tiles in Toronto offices have an NRC of at least 0.75. You can improve the sound cancelling properties by using recessed or reveal edge tiles – sound waves will bounce off at the extra edges.

Fireproof

Homeowners and commercial property owners focus on getting building materials that meet and exceed fire safety standards. Drop ceiling tiles are among the best fire-resistant ceiling tiles within the acceptable grids – they will offer you the protection you need.

How to Estimate Supplies for T-bar Ceiling

You might be wondering how you can estimate the supplies required to replace your t-bar ceilings for your entire home. You should make a careful calculation to avoid underestimating or overestimating the material requirements. Below are tips on how to estimate the material requirements for a new installation or replacement of t-bar ceilings:

  • The first step involves determining the square footage of the t-bar ceiling you will require. You can do this by measuring the length and the width and then multiplying them together. For example, if the length is 30 feet and the width is 15 feet, the square footage will be 450 feet. If the measurements have a decimal point, you should round up to the next foot, not down.
  • The second step involves determining the number of tiles you need based on the square footage. The tiles come in a package, so you have to determine how many packs of tiles you require.
  • The third step involves determining the linear footage of the room. You can do this by measuring each wall from end to end.
  • Based on the size of the room, determine the total cross-tees you will need.
  • After determining all the measurements, work with a reliable t-bar ceiling provider or visit a home improvement store to obtain the necessary tools and equipment.

It’s crucial to ensure that the measurements are as accurate as possible. Consider hiring a professional to take the measurements for you if you can’t get accurate measurements.
