The Benefits of Insulation

Insulation products and supplies provide many benefits for your home or building. Proper insulation can save you money on heating and air conditioning costs.  Houses or buildings that are not insulated properly can allow heat transfer, leading to wasted energy. This will increase your energy costs and also make your heating and air conditioning unit work harder than it needs to, which will shorten its lifespan, costing you more money in the future.

Installing the proper insulation can also make your home more comfortable due to its sound absorption qualities. Insulation can absorb unwanted noise from appliances, audio equipment, and other causes of noise pollution. It can even prevent sound from being transmitted through the walls and floors of your home or building. Your home or building will also remain more comfortable with insulation that will keep the temperature at a more constant and consistent level.

Insulation can even keep your family or the people in your building healthier. Using formaldehyde-free insulation can reduce exposure to this toxic chemical. Insulation can also keep moulds and mildews from growing in your walls, ducts and ceilings posing dangerous health hazards.

For these reasons it’s important to know about the type of insulation products that you purchase. There are many type of insulation and the choices can be overwhelming. While you want the best insulation that you can get, you want something that will be cost-effective for your project.  You should come to a reliable, knowledgeable supplier like Bernardi Building Supply whose helpful staff can guide you to get the best performance and biggest savings from your insulation purchase.

Fiberglass Loose-fill, Blown-in, and Blanket Insulation

Insulation products come in many forms. Loose-fill or blown-in insulation is a very common type of insulation. It is blown into a designated space using special equipment. It is used for open new wall cavities, existing walls, unfinished attic floors and walls or areas that are hard to reach. Batts and rolls insulation, also known as blanket insulation, is laid out flat and fitted between joists, studs, and beam. It can be used for floors, ceilings and unfinished walls. This type of insulation is usually made of fiberglass, which is the common pink insulation.  The tiny fibres of glass trap hot air making this insulation useful for all areas.

Rigid Board Insulation

Rigid board insulation is not usually used to insulate an existing home but is typically used by builders in new construction to maximize energy efficiency.  It is made from polyurethane and is ideal for unfinished walls and unvented roofs. It is available as a foam panel that can be cut and comes in various thicknesses and widths.

Reflective Insulation

Another great product for attic ceilings under the roof is reflective insulation, which helps the home reflect heat rather than absorb it. It is faced with foil kraft paper, plastic film, or cardboard and can be fitted between studs, joists or beams.

As you can see, there are many different options to choose from when it comes to insulation supplies and products. Each one has its own unique properties and uses for homes and buildings. It can be very overwhelming to pick the best product for your particular project at the best price. You need a trustworthy, reliable supplier that will advise and guide you. Bernardi Building Supply, which serves the greater Toronto area, is the place to go. Their knowledgeable, friendly staff will transform an overwhelming task into a smooth, efficient process. Their commitment to customer satisfaction and service shines through their communication with both new and repeat customers, do-it-yourselfers and professional contractors. What Goes First – Insulation Or Wiring?

Every professional contractor and electrician in Toronto will tell that electrical wiring should be done before insulation is installed. Drilling holes and fishing wires through insulated walls makes work more difficult and even hazardous. We do not suggest you do the wiring yourself, since there are many codes and safety requirements to be observed during work it is strongly advised to have a licensed electrician complete this part before insulation is installed.
