Henry Blueskin

Henry® Blueskin® is a fully adhered building envelope membrane engineered for superior air, vapor, and weather protection. Designed for above-grade wall assemblies, Blueskin is trusted by building professionals to reduce uncontrolled air leakage, improve energy efficiency, and increase long-term durability in both residential and commercial construction. It plays a critical role in improving indoor comfort and reducing heating and cooling costs.

Manufactured using an SBS-modified bitumen compound laminated to a durable polyethylene film, Henry Blueskin provides unmatched adhesion, flexibility, and resistance to environmental stressors — making it ideal for complex wall configurations and high-performance building projects.

The durability of Henry Blueskin translates into long-term value for contractors, developers, and building owners. With proven field performance and compatibility with a wide range of materials, it’s become a preferred solution for architects and building science professionals.

Benefits

  • Air Barrier Excellence: Prevents uncontrolled air movement, reducing heat loss and protecting against condensation-related damage.
  • Energy Efficiency: Enhances thermal performance by minimizing air infiltration — leading to reduced HVAC loads and lower energy bills.
  • Self-Adhering Technology: Peel-and-stick application ensures seamless, continuous coverage and eliminates the need for primers or adhesives in many cases.
  • UV and Weather Resistant: Maintains integrity under direct sunlight exposure for up to 150 days and performs in a variety of climates, including extreme cold and heat.
  • Compatibility: Designed to work with a variety of substrates, including exterior gypsum board, CMU, concrete, OSB, and plywood.
  • Moisture Protection: Acts as both a water-resistive barrier and a vapor retarder, helping prevent mold, mildew, and material degradation.

Properties

  • FUNCTION: Full building envelope barrier – resists air, vapor, and water intrusion.
  • PRODUCT ROLE: Improves envelope durability and building performance.
  • INSTALLATION TYPE: Peel-and-stick membrane.
  • SUBSTRATE COMPATIBILITY:  Peel-and-stick membrane.

Overview

Henry Blueskin is more than a membrane — it’s a performance upgrade for your building envelope. Its unique combination of air, vapor, and water resistance contributes to airtightness, improved thermal comfort, and enhanced structural longevity. This is especially important in Canada’s variable climate zones where freeze-thaw cycles, driving rain, and fluctuating temperatures put conventional systems at risk of failure.

The self-adhered design simplifies application and improves jobsite efficiency. Blueskin conforms to architectural features such as corners, curves, and penetrations without tearing or requiring mechanical fasteners. Once installed, it forms a seamless barrier that resists air infiltration and moisture entry — key factors that contribute to energy waste and internal condensation.

Unlike traditional wrap or mechanically fastened barriers, Blueskin adheres directly to the substrate, which reduces the risk of air bypass and creates a monolithic surface. This tight building envelope not only supports code compliance but also provides a solid foundation for energy-efficient construction.

Guide

Installation

Step

01

Surface Preparation

Ensure the substrate is clean, dry, and free from grease, dust, and debris. For rough surfaces or cold-weather applications, primers may be required for optimal adhesion.

Step

02

Alignment & Positioning

Unroll the Blueskin membrane and align it vertically or horizontally to match project specs. Start from the base and work upward.

Step

03

Application

Peel off the release liner and press the membrane firmly onto the surface using a roller to ensure consistent adhesion and eliminate air pockets.

Step

04

Sealing & Overlaps

Overlap sheets by at least 2 inches on the sides and 4 inches at end laps. Seal all terminations, penetrations, and transitions using compatible sealants or detailing membranes.

COMPARATIVE TESTING

In controlled third-party evaluations, Henry Blueskin has outperformed conventional mechanically attached wraps in air permeability, adhesion, and resistance to water penetration. These measurable gains contribute to LEED® credit eligibility, better blower door test results, and compliance with stringent energy codes like SB-10 and NECB.

APPLICATIONS

Henry Blueskin is ideal for:

  • Commercial high-rise envelopes
  • Multi-family residential wall assemblies
  • Energy-efficient retrofits
  • Wood-frame and steel-frame construction
  • Institutional and healthcare facilities
  • Complex geometries requiring flexible barrier coverage
